The Open Road

I don’t remember where I first found this link.  It might have been on a WP blog or one of the forums I frequent.  It’s the story of two young women who decided to bike tour during the summer of 1944.

The times were so different in so many respects.  The women were quite daring not only for their time, but they did things we would not dream of now.

Another interesting aspect is that the first half was written when they were still young with the trip fresh in their memories.  It was finished by one of the ladies when she was in her eighties.  She still has an excellent memory.

It isn’t a short read, but an interesting one, not only for the bicycling part but for the evocation of a different time.  I hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing your opinions.
